Ever wonder how Teacher Appreciation Week began? It dates back to the 1940s, when a teacher named Eleanor Roosevelt (yes, that Eleanor Roosevelt) pushed Congress to formally recognize teachers’ contributions. It took until 1953 to make it official, and today we celebrate with everything from hand-drawn thank-you notes to classroom gifts.
As for Mother's Day, its roots trace back to ancient festivals in Greece and Rome, but the modern holiday was founded in 1908 by Anna Jarvis in honor of her own mother. What started as a heartfelt tribute quickly grew into one of the most cherished holidays in America.
At Legacy Toys, we’re carrying that spirit forward. During Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5–9), we’re running a $50 gift card giveaway at every store. One customer told us her daughter's teacher used the card to build a classroom library with games for rainy days.
Mother’s Day (May 11) brings its own kind of celebration. Our gift table is stocked with items moms love: cozy socks, sweet treats, baby keepsakes, and family games that bring everyone to the table.
And yes—free chocolate for moms on May 11 (while supplies last). Because some heroes wear capes, and some just need a moment of peace and a chocolate bar.
Let’s celebrate the people who show up every day with open hearts and boundless patience. They deserve more than one day—but we’ll make this one extra sweet.
