Snowy Owls live in the Arctic areas of North America, Europe, and Asia, although they may travel farther south when local climates allow. Males are white and get whiter as they age, while females have dark spots. Their senses of sight and hearing are quite well developed.
History: The Snowy Owl’s name means owl of Scandinavia, which refers to its originally being observed in northern Europe. Throughout its northern range, the owl’s primary target is lemmings, and one Snowy Owl may consume 1600 lemmings in a year. Its conservation status is Least Concern because of the Snowy Owl’s extensive range and adaptability.
